Is Green Crack a Positive Strain Name for the Pro Marijuana Community?

Quick Answer is Yes, its a fantastically effective brand name. Long answer is:

First, I'd like to thank my facebook friends over at Individual IClick for giving me this topic to think on. The Individuals make an assertion that the strain name, "Green Crack" is bad for the Pro Marijuana movement. 

This could make sense on the surface. Crack is a terrible drug. Crack has ruined countless lives. Crack is crazy addictive. ALMOST gives its abusers no chance of return. But we are supposed to be living in a Free Country. As long as I am not affecting someone's freedom or property, then I should be allowed to kill myself as quickly or slowly as I choose. If I choose to do it quick with Crack or a knife to the wrists, that's my choice. If I choose to do it slow with Twinkies and a sedentary lifestyle, that's my choice.

As far as the Public Relations problem The Individuals have with "Green Crack"; Even though we all now agree that Crack should be legal, it's still a negative, and understandable if someone wouldn't want it associated with their product of choice. But if you have a problem with the effectiveness of the brand, "Green Crack", then you may also have a problem with the effectiveness of using sex in advertising. You remember Green Crack, you can imagine how Green Crack might feel if you hadn't smoked it. I doubt seriously that many people would think that a hit of Green Crack would have the same or even similar effects of real crack. If they did think that, they are most likely not the target audience. So, who gives a shit what they think?    :)
Marijuana is a product. Just like corn, coffee and rice. Why would limiting advertising for your product be a good idea. We should never apologize for wanting to treat marijuana like any other product. We don't need to worry about what the Puritans think about the plant we love the most. We move forward, paying no attention to the Nanny State bullshit they've talked themselves in to believing.

Just a short intro to myself, an experienced grower and smoker of twenty some years. We are all aware of the ability of carbon filters to remove smells and particles from grow spaces,so i guess it was a logical progression that the initiative of a company based in the USA led to realizing this idea could be used for smokers too. They have manufactured a minuscule carbon filter,which they claim allows the user to smoke a one hit bong or pipe ANYWHERE without any smoke or smell. Similar to their larger grow room cousins, these filters do need replacing occasionally,but the regularity of that would depend entirely on the amount it is used.Luckily the vendor offers them singularly or a six month or years supply,with discounts the more you buy. The price for one smokebuddy is US$19.99  I was most intrigued by this product, as i have predominately been a bong and pipe smoker for most of my smoking life, so decided i needed to test one immediately. As soon as the package arrived i packed my deepest roor bowl with 0.7 g of some well ground frosty MRnice critical mass,and a sprinkling of royale haze/blue widow super melt dry sift-just to be safe;) I stoked the bowl hard and waited till the icemaster cylinder was full of thick yellow smoke before lifting the down tube and injecting the ridiculous amount of smoke into my lungs; I didn't hold the smoke as long as i usually would on account of wanting to give the smoke buddy a worthwhile test. I almost immediately exhaled through the narrower end of the smokebuddy and to my utter amazement,and the friend who's help I'd enlisted to smell the outlet end from a distance of around 2 inches,not a wisp of smoke emitted from the outlet,my friend said the best way to describe what he felt and smelt coming from the outlet was a warm, steamy smell.

Impressed by the initial results i felt the smoke buddy warranted further testing.using a small pipe with some brewery tubing attached as a mouthpiece extension, and armed with my smokebuddy I attended my local cinema,and sitting toward the back managed to smoke 7 one hit pipes without any one giving me the slightest odd look.the cinema wasn't full to capacity but i think this does go a good way towards demonstrating the effectiveness of this product. One observation I'd make though is that this really is useless for smoking joints, as it has no way of dealing with the smoke that leaves the end of a joint. A pipe with a lid may be better used for this if you do want to use it for clandestine smoking,but with some practice it is easy to judge the exact amount of smoking material you can take in one hit. Another small technique that seems to make the smokebuddy slightly more effective is that you should exhale your smoke through the device, then breath in through your nose to get enough breath to push the last remnants of smoke that will have remained on the dirty side of the carbon filter that the end of your first exhale weren't able to push through.With a little practice you will soon see that this is one of the most innovative products to come on the smoking scene because it really does allow you to smoke ANYWHERE, ANYTIME. Massachusetts to Legalize Marijuana in 2012

Voters in Massachusetts appear to be ready to legalize marijuana in 2012, according to an analysis of the votes on local cannabis legalization advisory ballot questions last Tuesday.

Massachusetts allows for citizens to place non-binding local “public policy questions” on the ballot. And voters in several precincts weighed in this year on whether their local representatives should “vote in favor of legislation that would allow the state to regulate and tax the marijuana in the same manner as alcohol.”

More than 150,000 votes were cast on the marijuana issue across Massachusetts, in districts containing about 8.5 percent of the total vote. In the districts where pot policy was on the ballot, the advisory question passed with an overwhelming 61 percent of the vote, but these districts were slightly more liberal than the rest of the state, reports Jon Walker at Firedoglake. So to determine how those results might translate to a statewide marijuana legalization ballot question, Walker used two different metrics to analyze the data. The whole story from NEWS JUNKIE POST.

Toby "Tigerheart" Grear is the former Total Fighting Alliance Lightweight World MMA champion, and runs True Warrior Fitness, based in Hollywood. His goal is to make it to the UFC, but he says there may be some roadblocks. Grear believes:

He also appeared on the "Cannabis & Athleticism" panel at last year's NORML conference in San Francisco.Toby feels a deep responsibility toward younger people, partnering with two Los Angeles high schools to bring martial arts to students.

"As I continue to win fights with my eye on that UFC gold, " he says, "it's important that people understand the importance of teaching respomnsible use, rather than allowing children and young adults to make poor decisions regarding their use of marijuana."

Is Medical Marijuana Legal in Virgina

The Weed Blog did a story a couple days ago showing that medical marijuana is technically legal in Virginia and has been since 1979. It's interesting because I would bet that there are people in Virginia that have no idea that they may qualify for MMJ in their state. But I bet there are a very few who know that they can get MMJ and do. Then The Weed Blog did another story about a similar phenomenon in Illinois... again, technically legal in that state.

My question is if this is true, then I bet there are other states that technically allow Medical Marijuana. Now we don't suggest anyone in these states go out haphazardly trying to score some MMJ, but definitely examine it carefully. Even if your state isn't officially Green, maybe you have a legal leg to stand on.

Governor Schwarzenegger Decriminalizes Marijuana Statewide

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) Thursday signed into law a bill that decriminalizes the possession of up to one ounce of marijuana. The bill reduces simple possession from a misdemeanor to an infraction. 

Currently, small-time pot possession is "semi-decriminalized" in California. There is no possible jail sentence and a maximum $100 fine. But because possession is a misdemeanor, people caught with pot are "arrested," even if that means only they are served a notice to appear, and they must appear before a court. That has happened to more than a half million Californians in the last decade, and more than 60,000 last year alone. Every one of them required a court appearance, complete with judge and prosecutor. That costs the cash-strapped state money it desperately needs. Under the bill signed today, SB 1449, by Sen. Mark Leno (D-San Francisco), pot possession will be treated like a traffic ticket. The fine will remain at $100, and there will be no arrest record. In a signing statement, Schwarzenegger said he opposed decriminalization for personal use—and threw in a gratuitous jab at Proposition 19, the tax and regulate marijuana legalization initiative—but that the state couldn't afford the status quo. "I am signing this measure because possession of less than an ounce of marijuana is an infraction in everything but name," said Schwarzenegger. "The only difference is that because it is a misdemeanor, a criminal defendant is entitled to a jury trial and a defense attorney. In this time of drastic budget cuts, prosecutors, defense attorneys, law enforcement, and the courts cannot afford to expend limited resources prosecuting a crime that carries the same punishment as a traffic ticket." "Gov. Schwarzenegger deserves credit for sparing the state's taxpayers the cost of prosecuting minor pot offenders," said California NORML director Dale Gieringer. "Californians increasingly recognize that the war on marijuana is a waste of law enforcement resources." The law goes into effect January 1. Even if Prop 19 passes in November, it leaves in place misdemeanor charges for smoking in public or in the presence of minors. Those misdemeanors would become infractions under the new law.

Dr. Gary Wenk, Ph. D., is a professor of psychology, neuroscience, molecular virology, immunology and medical genetics at Ohio State University. We're gonna go out on a limb here and assume that Wenk is a really smart dude. In the July issue of Psychology Today, he published an article discussing his latest research. His conclusion: Pot stimulates the brain's cannabinoid receptors, which in turn may mitigate the consequences of stroke, chronic pain and neuro-inflammation.

As Wenk wrote: "Research in my laboratory has demonstrated that stimulating the brain's marijuana receptors may offer protection by reducing brain inflammation and by restoring neurogenesis. Thus, later in life, marijuana might actually help your brain, rather than harm it. It takes very little marijuana to produce benefits in the older brain: my colleague in France, Dr. Yannick Marchalant, coined the motto 'a puff is enough' because it appears as though only a single puff each day is necessary to produce significant benefit."

Barney Frank Demands Banking Services for Marijuana Related Businesses

Lending  institutions like Bank of America and Wells Fargo routinely deny new accounts to businesses that deal with medical marijuana. But that may change soon. Fifteen members of Congress, led by Barney Frank (D - MA), delivered a letter to the Treasury Office stating: "Legitimate state-legal businesses are being denied access to banking services, which does not serve the public interest." Additionally, the letter cited "an increased risk to public safety with potential theft or robbery that any cash-only or cash-reliant business faces."

The congressmen want the Treasury to issue "formal written guidance" assuring banks they won't be targeted for doing business with companies that distribute marijuana."

Irv Rosenfeld - MMJ Advocate and Incredible Success Story

In the October 2010 Issue of High Times > Buzz Section - Robert Platshorn, aka Bobby Tuna, featured an article regarding an amazing medical marijuana success story. The article was about Irv Rosenfeld.

Irv and his wife, Debbie, were born and raised in Virginia. In 1963, at age 10, he was dignosed with multiple congenital cartilaginous exostoses, a rare and very painful Disease that causes bone tumors. By that time Irv had over 200 tumors growing from the long bones of his arms and legs. Repeated surgeries were needed to remove the ones that were too painful or impeded use of his limbs. By age 13, Irv was bedridden and required home schooling. He was already on Demerol, Parafon Forte and a shot of bourbon to help him sleep. Later, he became dependent on Quaalude, Valium and Dilaudid to control the pain, before discovering the one drug that could both ease his suffering and stop the growth of his tumors--marijuana. Irv hasn't needed surgery in over 36 years and has been off the opiates for ages.

The activist community has been waiting a long time for My Medicine, (Click here to buy Irv's book) Irv's brand new book documenting his ten year, often physically painful battle with the Feds to gain access to the "Compassionate Care" program. That battle continues to this day, with Irv now helping others legally obtain their medicine. Without marijuana, he would've been dead ages ago or, at the very least, bedridden and in constant, severe pain. Connecticut A Better Way Foundation

A new group has been formed in Connecticut. Formed through A Better Way Foundation http://www.abwf-ct.org/

A Better Way Foundation - CT will be convening a meeting on January 19, 2011 from 6pm-7:30, 127 Martin Street, Hartford to discuss primarily the 2011 medical marijuana campaign but also collaborative efforts for all drug policy efforts this legislative session. You are invited to attend this meeting and please bring with you any information that would be helpful in developing a collaborative and comprehensive campaign for the year.

We are in the process of organizing many fundraisers, (one of which is a PENGUIN PLUNGE) and are trying to get Inmates (past and prest) as well as patients in need of MMJ who would allow us to use their name (inmate number) on the back of sweatshirts for each "penguin"

We feel that having a specific person who is willing to share their story to the uneducated or ignorant would benefit in our efforts for decrim, medicinal etc.
